What is a vCard QR Code?
A vCard QR code is a digital business card embedded in a QR code. Unlike a standard URL QR code that opens a website, a vCard code contains actual contact data (Name, Phone, Email, Company). When your phone scans it, it understands that this is a "New Contact" and offers to save it directly to your address book.
How to Scan on iPhone (iOS)
Apple has integrated QR code scanning directly into the Camera app since iOS 11. Here is the seamless process:
Method 1: The Camera App (Easiest)
- Open the Camera app from your Home Screen or Lock Screen.
- Point the camera at the vCard QR code. Make sure the code is clearly visible.
- A yellow notification banner will appear at the top (or bottom) of the screen, usually saying "Contacts" or "Add Contact".
- Tap the banner.
- The "New Contact" screen will slide up with all the details pre-filled. Tap Save.
Method 2: Control Center Code Scanner
If the camera isn't working, use the dedicated Code Scanner:
- Swipe down from the top-right corner (Center Center).
- Tap the QR Code icon (looks like a small barcode).
- Point your phone at the code—it will scan instantly and open the contact card.
Note: If you don't see the icon, go to Settings > Control Center to add it.
How to Scan on Android
Most modern Android phones (Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus) have QR scanning built into the camera or Google Lens.
Method 1: Google Lens (Universal)
- Open the Google App or tap the Lens icon (camera symbol) in your search bar.
- Point your camera at the QR code.
- Tap the shutter button or the QR code itself on the screen.
- A pop-up will appear showing the contact details. Tap Add to Contacts.
Method 2: Samsung Camera & Native Apps
For Samsung Galaxy and Pixel users:
- Open your Camera app.
- Ensure "Scan QR codes" is enabled in your camera settings (gear icon).
- Point the camera at the code.
- A link or pop-up will appear. Tap it to save the contact.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Too Dark? Turn on your phone's flashlight while scanning.
- Too Blurry? Tap the screen to focus directly on the QR code.
- Too Small? Move closer, but ensure the camera can still focus (usually 4-6 inches away).
- Not working? Ensure the QR code is a valid vCard. Some older codes might just be text files.
